Given this challenging year with COVID19 affecting Face to Face group activities, the Green Prescription (GRx) Call Centre Team were relieved to finally see the country back to Level One. This meant that the summit walks to Rangitoto finally took place on November 19th.

Last Friday, the patients from Green Prescription Programme of South Seas made a hiking trip to the summit of Rangitoto. It was a great opportunity for GRx South Seas, Sport Auckland, Green Prescription, Department of Conservation and Papakura Marae to work together on such community activities.

SSH Call Centre -‘ Rangitoto Summit walk - Overall Experience with the Rangitoto Summit walk was one of the Best things I’ve got to experience this year, leading up the event, the goal was to try and get at least 5 clients that are connected to GRX to come and join for the day, but i managed to get 1 client to join us for the day, My client Rere is a 61 year old lady who is very happy to receive support from GRX, Rere is regularly in contact with me and active and always. Rere receives regular notifications if there is programs that may be suitable for her in the community, Rere was one of the first Clients to respond to my email regarding the Rangitoto Summit Walk. ‘The walk was quite challenging, but we managed to stick together with the clients and support each other all the way to the top. The client was very emotional after the walk, and thanked the team for the support during her walk up the Summit, Rere insists that we keep her in the updated with any Grx walkathons or more Suitable Activities for her, but also knows now that she can get her Husband involved with Green Prescription as well so that she has someone to keep her accountable.’

SSH Call Centre – ‘For myself I had 2 clients that came through. One of them was M.T who brought along his lovely wife as support. They were a lovely couple and thoroughly enjoyed the walk and were very supportive of one another as well as other clients. My other client M.T. She struggled a little bit with the walk but with the encouragement of the support team, she pushed herself and was an amazing person to do the walk with. I am very proud of my clients for completing the walk and they all found it challenging but persevered and their resilience really showed.

I definitely feel like we need more events such as the Rangitoto Summit Walk even within our local areas just to encourage that morale among clients but also to grow the relationship with clients and ourselves so that we are not limiting contact and support to just over the phone, but encouraging Face To Face.’

GRx teams are planning two summit walks in 2021 with the intention to invite more patients to join in. The summit walk generally is completed by all but its about participation and knowing that you’ve given the summit walk a good go.

Check out this video for the amazing trip.
