Digital and Video Content Lead

Languages: English, Chinese

Alexander started working for South Seas as a contractor since 2018, for supplying contents and communication works with his expertise. He then formally joined the South Seas Family in 2020 as the Media Coordinator to support the organisation’s media and promotional works during the pandemic. Before this, he worked as a freelance filmmaker in various sectors of the film industry. Coming from a background of media and film, Alex’s main role is to collect and to create visualised stories about the complex operations of South Seas, also to look after media strategies and digital media platforms. He often goes across different services and levels within the organisation to gather ideas and to fulfil various requirements.

Alex holds a master’s degree in Film and Media of Auckland University, after his Bachelor’s in Literature Studies. His passion is around narratives – to analyse effective ones and to create successful ones in digital media. He is interested in hidden stories about the marginalised and vulnerable communities in New Zealand – especially about migrants, ethnic minorities, and low-income families. His works at South Seas reflect a large part of these topics.

Apart from his work, Alex also loves cooking, hiking and cats. In the South Seas Family, he is famous for frequently showing off photos about his homecooked food, two cats and risky hikes.
