We provide a range of general medical and GP services at our clinic. This includes general medical check-ups, minor accident care, minor surgery, repeat prescriptions, lab results, liquid nitrogen, immunisations, cervical smears, ECG, spirometry, travel advice and travel immunisations.

Our Health Improvement Practitioner provides free assessment and advice for patients to manage some of the long-term conditions, and helps patients to improve their overall life quality.
The National Cervical Screening Programme is available to all women in New Zealand who have ever been sexually active between the ages of 20 and 70 years old. As one of the most preventable of all cancers, you can prevent cervical cancer by having your regular cervical screening test and any follow up treatment if required, and by having your HPV immunisation (girls from age 11).
Smears are free for Pacific, Maori, and Asian women aged 20 – 69 years, and other women over 30 years who have never had a smear or who haven’t had a smear in the past 5 years. Women who have never had any sexual relationship are not eligible to have a smear, and pregnant mothers can have their smears after delivery of the baby.

An Electrocardiogram (ECG) is a recording of your heart's electrical activity. Electrode patches are attached to your skin to measure the electrical impulses given off by your heart, resulting in a trace that can be read by a doctor. It can give information of previous heart attacks or problems with the heart rhythm.

Our GP’s can provide a general health check-up which provides a baseline of your health. A standard general check-up includes:
- A history - previous operations, medical conditions, medications and family history
- Blood pressure check
- Height / weight check
- Cholesterol level check
- Lifestyle check – alcohol consumption levels, smoking, stress levels
- Throat/ear/eye check
- Blood test
The National Immunisation Schedule offers a series of vaccines free to babies, children, adolescents and adults. Our clinic offers immunisations that are given by a practice nurse or doctor. Babies are routinely immunised for tetanus, polio, whooping cough, diphtheria, hepatitis B and haemophilus influenza type B, which are now combined in one injection. Immunisation for measles, mumps and rubella are also provided in one injection.
Each child has his or her own document to keep a record of their injections. Under the age of 5 this is usually their Well Child book. Immunisation details are also recorded on the National Immunisation Register. This information system holds details of all immunisations given to children in NZ. The computer will alert families when immunisations are due.
The influenza, tuberculosis (TB), hepatitis A and meningococcal A, C, Y, W135 vaccines are each provided free for certain eligible groups but can be purchased by other people if they want them. Chicken pox and rotavirus are also available but since these carry no government subsidy people have to pay for them. Reactions to immunisation are increasingly extremely rare following improvements in vaccine research and production.

Sometimes your doctor needs to take a sample of blood or urine either to discover what is wrong with you or to measure something in your blood so that the right medication is given to you. These tests could be anything from blood sugar to a full blood count or a sample of tissue to test for cancer. While urine can generally be tested in the surgery, blood and other specimens are usually sent away for testing at a laboratory. Most results come back within 48 hours unless a very rare test is needed which has to go to a specialist lab further away when it might take a little longer.
Liquid nitrogen is a fast, effective treatment provided to treat viral warts, sun damaged skin, skin tags and many benign cosmetic lesions. It is usually applied by swab or spray, and often one treatment is all that is needed but sometimes it may need repeating after two weeks.
We offer basic accident services including performing procedures such as plastering, suturing and wound management. After initial assessment, in an emergency or for more serious cases, you will be referred directly on to another primary health facility with specialists, such as the hospital.
We offer minor surgery, providing fast, competent removal and biopsies of skin lesions. Other services include cosmetic work such as removal of benign moles and skin tags, and ingrown toenail surgery. These conditions do not need to be referred to a hospital, perhaps saving you a long wait or a cancelled appointment when a more serious case takes priority.
If you are an enrolled South Seas patient and you have a stable condition like asthma; hypertension or diabetes, you may be able to get a repeat prescription for up to six months. Repeat prescriptions are never given to patients who are not known to the practice and there is a blanket ban on repeats for narcotics and other drugs that could be misused as doctors are expected to monitor these drugs carefully.
Spirometry (measuring the lung capacity) is the most important test to diagnose and monitor chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Spirometry is a tool that measures how effectively your lungs are working. It is able to show how much air lungs are able to hold (their volume) and how much air can be breathed in and out (inhaled and exhaled) which is called flow. This tool is used to assess damage caused by conditions like COPD, pulmonary fibrosis, cystic fibrosis and asthma. Results are shown on a graph called a pneumotachograph.
We offer advice and travel immunisations before you go to another country. There may be injections you need, to protect yourself before going to certain regions, for example to Africa or South America. In some places you will need protection from rabies or malaria, and your doctor will be able to tell you what diseases you will need to be protected from in any named country and advise you on other medical matters.

If you are apply for or receive financial assistance from Work and Income New Zealand (WINZ), you may be required to provide a medical certificate to WINZ. These are documents containing health and/or disability related information about a person, and are legal documents. Your Doctor at South Seas can provide the necessary paperwork for you to comply with WINZ. This may be for:
- Work Capacity Medical Certificate
- Disability Certificate (for disability allowance)
- Disability Certificate - Counselling
- Disability Allowance - Medical Alarm Assessment
- Supported Living Payment medical certificate for a person being cared for
- Child Disability Allowance - Medical Certificate
- You may also be asked to provide a Host Doctor Report or medical information to support an application for PATHS
